I discovered this week that NightShade vegetables can trigger arthritis flares! Who knew?
A client in my practice told me that her Naturopath recommended avoiding Nightshade plants to help control arthritic pain.
Food members of the nightshade family include:
- peppers (sweet or hot)
- ground cherries
- tomatillos and tamarillos
- huckleberry and naranjilas (i had to google these to know what they were)
- pepinos and pimentos
I should mention that when I researched this topic, I found that there have been no conclusive testing and that the effect of food vary greatly from person to person. But if I suffered from arthritis and couldn’t pin point the trigger I’d give it a try.
